Welcome

Thank you for joining us! We hope you will be blessed.

My Story

My name is Candice Heatherly, and I am from Pickens, SC. On June 16, 2021, I was diagnosed with Stage 3B Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of the right breast. I was 35 years old with no family history, so this came as quite the shock to me. In the weeks that followed, I met with my doctor’s team and got a plan. I would complete 16 chemo treatments, 25 intense radiation treatments, and have 6 surgeries. One year and one month after my diagnosis, I received the news that I was cancer free!

There was a lot of uncertainty during these two years of my life, but there were two things I could absolutely count on… the Lord had a plan, and my community would support me through it. They showed up and showed out.

There were fundraisers. There were gifts and donations. There were prayer-grams and cards. I was flooded with people who were in my corner cheering me on. So, when I was finished with my battle, I wanted to find a way to pass that on to others. When I started thinking about what I wanted to do, I decided to compile some of the things that I used during those treatments and make a basket. I had no idea that something so simple would be the beginning of all of this.

I started making the baskets and posted a picture on Facebook. I hadn’t come up with a name yet, and a friend posted the verse 2 Corinthians 1:4 on one of my posts. The verse reads:

“who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God”

I read that verse that evening and thought… that’s exactly what this is all about. That is how The Comfort Cause began. To date, we have delivered 65 baskets. We have a board of directors made up of six representatives from all over the Upstate of South Carolina.

Baskets are completely free to those nominating or those being nominated. We have been fortunate to receive the All In Foundation Grant in 2023 and have many individual and group contributions that make this whole operation happen. We also have an Amazon store in which people donate items directly. We hand deliver and mail baskets to those out of the area. We have mailed to 5 states outside of South Carolina since our beginning in July 2023.

Thank you for being here. Our wish is that you will pray for this ministry to continue to grow to help others battling cancer. If you would like to donate, please visit the Donation page. To nominate, please do so via the Nomination page.

Much love,

Candice Heatherly and The Comfort Cause Team
